How an electricity or water bill is produced and paid: meter reads, validation, tariff calculation, bill delivery and payment posting.

Utility billing sequence: at cycle end the meter data management system sends validated reads (estimating any missing ones) to the billing engine, which applies the tariff slabs, fixed charges, taxes and subsidies, generates the bill and sends it by SMS, email and app. The customer pays through UPI, the payment aggregator notifies the billing system, the payment is posted to the account and a receipt is sent.
