How medicine packs are serialised and traced from factory to pharmacy to stop counterfeits: unique codes, aggregation and verification.
Drawing diagramβ¦
Data flow for pharmaceutical serialisation: the packaging line prints a unique serial number, GTIN, batch and expiry as a 2D DataMatrix on each pack, aggregation links packs to cases and pallets, serial data is uploaded to the company's serialisation repository and to the national verification system. Distributors scan cases at receipt and dispatch, and pharmacies scan packs before dispensing; the system decommissions the serial or raises an alert if it is unknown or already dispensed.
