The states of an automated drip irrigation controller: idle, scheduled watering, moisture-based watering, rain delay and fault handling.
Drawing diagram…
State machine for an irrigation controller: Idle, Checking conditions at scheduled time or when soil moisture drops below 25%, Rain Delay if rain is forecast within 12 hours, Opening Valve, Watering until the target moisture or time limit, Closing Valve and back to Idle. No flow or low pressure while watering goes to Fault, alerting the farmer; Manual Override allows the farmer to start or stop from the app.
